The Trout Reach
The “Trout Reach” is a lovely under fished stretch of association water situated in-between “Beeches” and the “Competition stretch”. It has the potential for good sport throughout the seasons, with good nets of Roach, Skimmers and Perch available to the angler all year round.

Trout Reach |
Through the colder months it offers superb pike action, with the chance
of a real specimen always a possibility. This
is due to the abundance of “feed
fish” and plenty of cover from which the pike can ambush its prey.
Walking the stretch with spinning gear could give you a fantastic day with sport from both pike and perch, the latter of which go up to 3lbs, so definitely worth catching!

For me though, the fish to seek from this stretch are the carp.
Ranging in size from high “singles” to fish over 20lb, and both
mirrors and commons, there is an immense feeling of satisfaction when you lift
the net on one of these pristinely conditioned fish.
Spend some time walking the stretch looking for activity in the rushes
and then present them with an attractive bait fished on a fairly simple ledger
set-up.
Strong tackle should be used when fishing for these carp, as they possess
great fighting ability with strong runs in their attempts to gain the safety of
the reed beds.
Whatever type of fishing you choose, you can be sure that a session on
this lovely little stretch of canal, amongst the kingfishers and other wildlife,
will be an enjoyable one, regardless of net weights, or fish size.
Till next time…….
